(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, September 14, 2012 ) Chicago, IL – Boston-based indie/roots band Dispatch will stop at Chicago as they continue their 2012 North American tour. The band will perform at the Aragon Ballroom for two consecutive nights on October 2 and 3, 2012.
The band’s North American tour was announced last April 2012. It came after the band, which disbanded in 2004, reunited in 2011. The band originated in Boston in 1996 and was active until 2002 before they announced a hiatus that lasted for nearly a decade. Before disappearing from the airwaves, the band performed in a farewell concert.
During their long hiatus, Dispatch performed three reunion concerts in Boston (2004), New York City (2007), and Washington DC (2009). In 2011, they officially announced, by way of QR codes hinting at a possible reunion, that they were coming together for a national tour. By May of 2011, they released an EP with six new songs, the first new album they released with new songs since 2000.
Aside from their distinctive songs and their albums, Dispatch is also known for the charitable causes they support. One of these is the Elias Fund, which was formed after Chad Urmston wrote the song Elias. The song was about his experience living and teaching in Zimbabwe. The non-profit Elias Fund provides support through education to youth in Zimbabwe and hopes to encourage American youth to embrace an active role in supporting youth from other nations.
Dispatch was also part of The Relief Project, a benefit concert held at Irving Plaza in New York City. It was partly organized by Brad Corrigan, also known as Braddigan, who is the vocals, drums, percussion, guitar, and harmonica man in the group. Dispatch also features Pete “Repete” Francis Heimbold on vocals, bass, and guitar, while Chad, better known as Chetro, is on vocals, guitar, bass, percussion, trombone, and piano.
Before they arrive at Chicago for their concert at the Aragon Ballroom, the group will perform in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Broomfield, and Minneapolis. After their Chicago shows, they will also perform in New York, Boston, Toronto, Upper Darby, Washington DC, and Atlanta.
The group also announced a series of shows in Europe early next year. So far, they are scheduled to perform in Vienna, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam.
