This will be part of the 2012 tour, which producers of the show has dedicated to the memory of David Payton.
David Payton is the playwright and producer behind the movie A Good Man is Hard to Find. Payton met an untimely demise in a South Carolina crash in October 2011, and was unable to see his latest work Behind the Pulpit reach the same level of popularity.
The play Behind the Pulpit tells the story of a pastor called Pastor Alston, who had always dreamed of a life that his family would be proud of. The play sees him give his entire life to his ministry together with his wife Debra and their son Jr. Many times, Pastor Alston is forced to choose between his ministry and his family. Despite his dedication to the church, several things at the Come & Go Baptist Church went wrong, including a major financial fallout right before the Come & Go Baptist Church Annual Conference.
The story tells of how Pastor Alston overcame the difficulties he and his church became faced with and how he handled the constant dilemma he had to face between his family and his church. His efforts, perseverance, and dedication make an inspiring story of how even church leaders experience and overcome difficulties.
The play has received positive response since it began its 2012 tour back in March at the Temple Theatre in Meridian. This November, as the year draws to a close, the entire cast and crew of the inspirational play will visit Chicago for a series of five shows to be held at the Arie Crown Theater.
Show dates are from November 15 to November 18, with two shows on the 17th, a Saturday. The Chicago run will come at the heels of a long tour through Maryland, Washington DC, and Georgia on October to early November. The tour will conclude at the Arie Crown Theater. No tour dates for 2013 have been announced.
